Janvier 2005

Hello folks ! When I reviewed “Fausseté Et Démeseure”, I supposed that labels should be interested in your music. Now you released another self-produced demo. Has any label contacted you in the meanwhile ?

“Fausseté et Démesure” didn’t have a rather good sound to interest the labels. We thus recorded "Apocryphe" in studio to try to collect their attention. Then, we sent this one to them. We had serious proposals but nothing was still signed. The problem, it’s that we also always have bad proposals ! As it was already the case in the past. One then asks us to advance enormous money sums which we don’t have, fault of financial means, and it’s certainly not for lack of motivation ! But financial reality remains present and the motivation doesn’t replace unfortunately the money. However, we are opened with any type of proposal on behalf of the labels.

Let’s talk about “Apocryphe”. What can you tell us about this demo ? Are you totally satisfied of it ?

We were completely satisfied of it at the moment of its release. Its recording occurred very well, even if we consider it too much short. The little of budget explains mainly that. In a general way, we are very pleased of it even if we don’t estimate to have a finished product with the final one. But it is only a demo and we thus didn’t stop with that. We also had right to a very good sound engineer which didn’t know anything in Black Metal, but which made good job. What we can possibly reproach, it’s the mixing of the drums and a sound perhaps too clean. Today, we find it always good but it doesn’t correspond completely so that the group became. We are currently much more demanding and I think that our next work will show a considerable evolution compared to "Apocryphe".

Your songwriting is really skilled and original. Which are your main sources of inspiration ? I think that you are good classical music’s listeners, since you played a Saint-Saëns theme on “L’Entrave Au Cours Des Choses”…

Each one among us brings its influences which are relatively varied. With regard to Saint-Saëns, it’s Circius, which listens to much classical music as well as other musical styles, which had the idea of it. If he wanted to use it in "L’Entrave Au Cours Des Choses", it’s because he found that the topic of "Macabre Dance" was incorporated well in the whole of the compo (it’s a personal point of view but which didn’t displease to the other members of the band).

Is there a concept behind "Apocryphe" ? How much are lyrics important in Inocculta music ?

There is no particular concept behind "Apocryphe", and it’s perhaps what was reproached to us the most. Indeed, for some people, this demo is too heterogeneous and the compos thus don’t have any base between them, which is not completely false. A German webzine reproached us that. On the other hand, more positively, a French webzine spoke, him, of the presence of 4 hits on our demo, which is rather flattering in this precise case. With regard to the lyrics, they are important and we always pay all attention so that we say and so that the texts tell even if it isn’t the first of our concerns. Our vocation remains and will remain musical.

The songs of "Apocryphe" are dated 2002. Did you write new songs in the meanwhile? Must we wait a change in your style ?

First of all, I insist on specifying that it is well the texts which date from 2002, and not the compos in themselves. Our music is recent and is in perpetual evolution and thus in the continuation of our previous demos. For "Apocryphe", we had used texts, old perhaps, but who corresponded well to the compos, this is why we didn’t hesitate to place them over our news compos. For the moment, we indeed have news compos, which is closer to a song like "Un Dernier Soupir" than a song like "Inocculta". We remain always Black Metal while trying to incorporate in our music elements without relationship with this style. Our way of working changed since "Apocryphe", we compose and work the compositions much more in band. I think that our next realization will be more open on other musical horizons while remaining faithful to our basic style. In my opinion, Inocculta must above all be like Inocculta (what is not easy).

Which are your plans for the future ? Will you come to Italy for a gig ?

The ideal would be to find a good label, a good distribution and to make concerts under suitable conditions. By after, to have the possibility of making an album would be an excellent thing. We undoubtedly will make other concerts but we don’t have really concrete planned things for the moment .We will try to make concerts in France but for the moment we played only in Belgium. Concerning the composition, we will turn more toward work of band to avoid the too varied songs and to really establish our own style. A concert in Italy would be obviously excellent ! But with, of course, the availability and the means necessary. In all the cases, we remain motivated in concerts even if our timetables strongly limit us this side.

What’s your opinion about Belgian metal underground ? Are there any promising new bands ?

In fact, we don’t know many Black Metal’s bands in Belgium, we have more contacts with the French scene. It’s the advantage of being a band with dual nationality, we can afford easily to have contacts in 2 different scenes. In Belgium, we know and support small bands of Black Metal such as Blackthorns and Imperium Occultum. Otherwise, outside Black Metal, we know bands of Brussels with which we get along well.

Well, this short interview is over. Last words are yours !

Thank you for this interview and your support for Inocculta. Thanks to all Italian fans who support us or who will discover our band thanks to your interview !
